Choirmate lets you share files and track attendance. That is a starting point, and its free plan takes up to 50 singers. But if you have ever looked for a way to slow down a difficult passage, annotate a score, give a note from the piano on your phone, or get a dep up and running the night before a concert, you have quickly run into a paid package — or into three different apps. Music Drive puts all of it in one app, and keeps none of it behind a higher plan.

Choirmate features and prices recorded on choirmate.com on 22 September 2026, at the "up to 50 members" tier. The Standard and Premium packages are billed to the choir; the individual Premium subscription is billed to each singer who chooses to take it.
The two free plans, side by side
Choirmate and Music Drive both have a free plan, but they cut in different places. Choirmate takes up to 50 people without paying — more than our 10 members, and that deserves saying — but caps the repertoire at 15 songs and keeps most of the practice tools for the Standard package. Music Drive does the opposite: the ensemble is smaller, and nothing is locked.

| To go further | €8/month, 20 members, same features | $26.67 USD/month for the choir, or $4.99 USD/month per singer |
The virtual piano makes the difference plain. On Choirmate it appears in the Standard package list, so it sits outside the free plan. On Music Drive it is there from day one, alongside the chromatic tuner, the 14-pattern metronome and the practice engine: a conductor who wants to give their sopranos a note does not have to reach for a card.
The same logic holds across all six plans. Between the Free plan and the School plan at €20/month, the only things that change are the number of workshops, the number of members and the storage. No feature is unlocked by price. A ten-person choir works with exactly the same tools as a music school of five hundred students.
What Music Drive actually changes
Voice parts, practice tools, and a good deal more
ChoirMate handles voice parts very well — vocal sections, content differentiated by voice, section chats and polls. On that front the two apps are comparable. Where Music Drive goes further is in the practice tools: PDF annotations shared between all members, timestamped comments on rehearsal recordings, and VloopPro to create named loops on any YouTube video without downloading it. Features ChoirMate does not offer, and that genuinely change how you prepare a concert.
Work a difficult passage without leaving the app
ChoirMate offers a basic variable-speed player. Music Drive goes further with SpeedShift (slowing down without changing the key) and above all VloopPro : named A/B loops on any YouTube video with no download, horizontal mirroring for guitarists and double bass players, structure markers shared with the whole group (Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge…). Tools ChoirMate does not offer.
Annotate directly on the score
In Music Drive, PDF scores are not just files to download. Your singers can highlight passages, add handwritten notes and leave comments bar by bar — and those annotations are shared with the rest of the group. The director can mark breaths, dynamics and corrections: everyone sees them in real time, on their phone or computer.
A dep up and running in 30 seconds
The night before a concert, one of your altos is ill. You have found someone, but they have never rehearsed with you. In Choirmate you have to send the files across by hand. In Music Drive you generate an invitation QR code or an email link — within 30 seconds your dep has every score, the reference recordings, the concert setlist and the rehearsal notes. VloopPro and SpeedShift are available straight away so they can prepare on their own. After the concert, you remove access in one click.
On stage with SmartLive
Music Drive includes SmartLive: your scores scroll in tempo during the concert, right on the screen. No more page turns or paper stands to juggle. And between rehearsals and the concert, everything stays in the same tool — no migrating to another app.
The metronome your director has been waiting for
Not just a click. Music Drive includes a metronome with 14 subdivision patterns (quarters, eighths, triplets…), time signatures from 2/4 to 7/8, and a training engine with muted click and progressive tempo — ideal for building a sense of time without crutches. Presets are saved to your account and available from any device.
Everything included — no hidden paid add-ons
The virtual piano, the tuner, SpeedShift, VloopPro, ChordsNinja, SmartLive, the advanced metronome — none of these is a paid extra in Music Drive, the free plan included. Choirmate runs a three-tier ladder. The Standard package unlocks the built-in piano, variable playback speed, offline mode, polls and an unlimited repertoire. The Premium package adds sheet music annotations, lyrics, custom voice parts per song, individual practice lists and the choir website. And each singer can separately take an individual Premium subscription at $4.99 USD a month. Music Drive has no ladder: every feature is available on every plan — the only difference between plans is the number of workshops, members and storage. Not the features.
A complete workspace, nothing extra to install
Here are the tools available directly inside Music Drive, with nothing to download:
Loop any audio passage or YouTube video to work on a piece. Horizontal mirroring for guitarists and double bass players. Customisable section markers.
Slow a recording down without changing the pitch. Essential for transcribing a difficult passage or learning a complex vocal line.
Create and share visual chord charts in seconds. One-click transposition. Reachable directly from every piece.
14 subdivision patterns, time signatures from 2/4 to 7/8, tap tempo, random muted click, progressive tempo. Presets saved to your account.
Real-time note detection through the microphone. An interactive piano to give a note or check a harmony with no instrument to hand.
Scores scrolling in tempo during the concert. No more paper pages and no more nasty surprises on stage.
